Trans-Media Project

For my Trans-media project I felt like producing something that stood out yet did not involve a complicated situation like asking the audience to follow the project and travel places and play social games of sorts to gain clues, I wanted to design advertisement for a horror film that was cheap with budget and allowed anyone to participate while linking the activities to the genre of the up coming film.

Firstly I wanted something unexpected to hook the audience into my gasp, for this I used a fake advertisement that would be placed in news papers for a fortune telling service. Once the number is called the callers number is stored in a database whilst a pre recorded message is sent saying ‘This number has been Traced’, once the message is over the phone will hang up on the caller. The ad was made purely in Photoshop.

Once a week has past a link to a web page will be sent to those who participated in stage one of the project due to the numbers stored in the data base, a URL link to a web page will be sent out so those with smart phones and an internet connections can access or share via Facebook and other social networking. The webpage was created purely in Photoshop by screen capping Google chrome and then creating from scratch the page using text and shape techniques.

Once the site has reached a certain amount of views (around the hundred thousands) a video will appear in the middle of the webpage showing a trailer for a horror film called help where anyone that can access the site will be able to watch.

As the film is apart of the horror genre I used this trailer in order to interest the audience to want more of the narrative, it is still unclear what the story line is yet but the scene depicted within the trailer draws the audience in. The footage is not the best quality due to the technology present to me and poor lighting techniques during the night scene yet it is a rough sketch of my ideal trailer with low quality tools that are available to me.

A iPhone 5 was used to film the footage contained in the video while a majority of sounds were recorded on my pc and edited in audacity and connected with the film in post production stage on Sony Vegas 11. The demonic sounding voice was created using this tutorial in audacity while other sound effects were found on free to use web pages which will be referenced at the end of this post. The main goal of the trailer was to build suspense until the murderer is shown and chases the victim which we can expect a similar situation in any horror genre film. At the end of the trailer  a films name is revealed as well as a release date, now the film will be advertised free with common methods such as movie posters and reveals on Television.

This concludes my project in order to advertise my horror film using phone communication and the internet combined with social networking. Its simple and cheap yet effective and uses the power of social networking which is a major source of news consumption today in order spread news about the product.
